Ashen Hollow
Ashen Hollow packs a surprising amount of RPG into a phone screen. You wake up in a ruined village and slowly bring it back to life by taking quests, befriending odd travelers, and clearing dungeons on the outskirts. Combat is turn-based but quick, so a fight rarely drags past a couple of minutes — perfect for the bus.
The writing is the real draw. Every villager has a personality, and choices actually ripple forward: help the blacksmith early and she'll forge you gear later. I got genuinely attached to a grumpy cartographer who only spoke in complaints. Character builds are flexible too, with a skill tree that lets you lean into magic, blades or something messy in between.
My only gripe is the inventory menu, which gets cluttered once you're a few hours in. But that's a small stain on an otherwise cozy, well-paced adventure that respects your time.
